May 29th

Feast Day of St Oswald the Unready. He was a bishop of Bolton in 867AD who performed great acts of charity to the poor people of his parish.
When he heard of a family who were having problems feeding their 17 children he ordered his priests to sell off the cathedral's silver and gold in order that they could feed and clothe the family, at first they refused saying that the treasures belonged to God, Oswald countered by saying God himself had told him to sell the items to help the poor as set out in the Bible. Reluctantly the priests offered some of the gold and precious stones to the family, the Presstones. Instead of feeding his family the father chose to make gold rings and necklaces from the items, becoming a famous, successful jeweller in the process, founding "Presstones of Bolton.
Oswald was beatified in 900 by the Pope.
